Sherri & Matt (USA) had one of those unforgettable lavish weddings that was unique in every way. But there was something missing from their wedding day experience. They did not have the fantastic wedding portraits that they deserved. The surprising thing: Sherri is one of the best wedding photographers in Cincinnati, Ohio.
When they told me they were interested in having a special post portrait session in their wedding attire I knew we were going to have an amazing time. After all it is not everyday you have a gorgeous bride wearing a designer Berta dress who is game for a real experience. Sherri adores Prague as it is a city that has a very special place in her heart. She also knew that to really capture it's uniqueness - you had to get up for early.
With our crew at the ready (2 lighting assistants and a videographer, Cary Hubbs of Collective Productions) we headed out one very early morning to capture one of the most beautiful sessions of the year. It started out misty, gray and dark and these two would not have had it any other way.
There was something quite magical about them sauntering hand in hand underneath the gas lamp lit tower of the Charles Bridge as her cape trailed beautifully behind her. Who could forget the cool, fine mist that made up their wonderful backdrop and as the sun rose creating incredible shafts of light contrasting with the shadows. The Charles Bridge that morning was theirs and they esperienced alone and in their own unique way.
Though there were many images captured (make sure you visit their album page) I am rather fond of this image.
Prague is a picture perfect location for capturing beautiful on-location portraits year round. However some months are more in demand than others. Usually the best months are March through late October. However these are also very popular with tourists. For couples who wish to have a session like Sherri & Matt March (though can be quite chilly) - April is ideal if you seek having the solitude of the locations all to yourselves in the very early am and the bonus the sun's warmth creating unusual lighting patterns as the moisture rises from the Vltava or the fog.
The summer months (late May - September) are always in demand yet the sunrise can be quite early. Again the bonus is less people out and about very early in the am allowing us to capture more of those coveted night time portraits.
Personally speaking the most visually pleasing time of year for a portrait session in Prague is late September - early October. The fall foliage is spectacular and lends itself to more creative and beautiful backdrops. Another plus for many couples - the sunrise is not too early.
